Team

A Thank You

by Colin Davis, Athletic Intern

I would usually start these articles off with some cheesy little quip or a line about how the star talent of this team shined again, but that’s not what this is. This isn’t like anything I’ve written for this site, this school, or this role. This is purely off the cuff and my own thoughts and mine only...

What we witnessed this season was history. There’s no way to describe it or call it anything other than pure history. We reached a spot that this school hasn’t been in for over 2 decades. And yes, tonight was tough, and whatever you’re thinking, I can guarantee you that the players are thinking it too. Yes, this is tough but we got to watch an entire town unite under a group of teenagers on a field and it was truly something special. Yes, this is tough but we got to see some of the greatest talents ever seen at this school lace them up on a weekly basis. Yes, this is tough but there is plenty of promise and hope for the future. I have no doubt in my mind that this team can get through this kind of overhaul and come out on the other side thriving. Why? Because we just did it a year ago. We lost over 15 seniors along with two Division 1 athletes in Myles Bailey and Leon Lowery in 2019. There was uncertainty with the team in 2020 with a then Sophomore QB taking the reigns of a run-heavy offense and what happened? We went undefeated that year and won GMC’s. I have no doubt in this team’s ability to thrive in the chaos and uncertainty. I have no doubt about the talent on display on both sides of the ball and most importantly, I have no doubt in this coaching staff. Since taking over in 2016, Coach Michael Cipot has lost 13 games. 13 games in constant change and turnover within the team’s ranks. That’s why I feel confident in our future, and it’s why you should too.

It has been my genuine honor, privilege, and pleasure to have covered this team this year. I have nothing but respect for all of the players and coaches for their contributions to this team. I would like to sincerely thank every player and coach who contributed to a story this year. Without them, none of this would be possible. Finally and most importantly, I would like to thank you, the reader, and any reader who read even one story. You make all of this possible and it was my honor and pleasure to give you the breakdown for everyone and anyone. This wasn’t where we wanted it to end because, in all honesty, we didn’t want it to. But next September, when the 2022 Raiders take the field at a roaring Steve Libro Field, I’ll be right back there for it. Until next year Raider fans...
