Course Description

CP German II further expands and refines the basic skills introduced in CP German I.  The stress on understanding and speaking the language still receives primary emphasis, but there is an increased stress on reading comprehension through the introduction of supplementary reading material as well.  Students further their study of German culture with the aid of, videos, compact disks and other audio-visual materials.

Course Proficiencies

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Understand intermediate speech by native speakers in the target language which concerns every day conversational topics.
  2. Understand the content of various audio-visual materials in the target language (e.g. cd’s, videos).
  3. Comprehend and discuss the context of reading passages from the text and/or from supplementary reading materials.
  4. Respond accurately to questions based on reading, grammar and culture via homework assignments, in-class exercises, quizzes, and tests.
  5. Write short-guided compositions and/or dialogues on selected topics.  The topics will be based on the vocabulary and structures practiced in class.
  6. Write dictations in German with accuracy.
  7. Demonstrate understanding and mastery of the cultural material presented by the teacher and through student reports, projects, and demonstrations.
  8. Demonstrate mastery of the vocabulary presented by the instructor.
  9. Demonstrate listening comprehension mastery by participating in oral discussions and answering oral questions in German about the text and/or supplementary material.

Course Requirements

Students will be expected to:

  1. Attend class regularly and be on time.  
  2. Bring necessary supplies to class.
  3. Complete all in-class and homework assignments.
  4. Make up all work after any absence within a deadline established by school policy.
  5. Maintain a high degree of class participation and preparation.
  6. Demonstrate a cooperative attitude and contribute to the learning process of the class.

Evaluation Procedures

Marking period grades will be assigned quarterly and will be determined by the following:

  1. Tests (2)/Quizzes/Projects/Compositions 50%
  2. Class Participation (daily)/Oral Proficiency (per rubric) 20%
  3. Classwork 20%
  4. Homework (minimum 1/week) 10%
