I expect my students to come away with a love of learning, a desire to participate and excel and the ability to process the basic knowledge of how to live a healthy lifestyle.


At the same time, I plan an effective educational approach that will build strong character traits, the ability to focus on a task and complete it independently, the desire to share with others and interact in kind compassionate ways with a positive attitude toward achievement and the common good.


My standards are always high, and I never lower my expectations of my students. My support and guidance is always offered to help achieve what is not only the best for all students in the classroom but outside the classroom as well.

Lifeguarding Training Class Junior PE

The purpose of the American Red Cross Lifeguarding course is to teach candidates the knowledge and skills needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. The course content and activities prepare candidates to recognize and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies and prevent drowning’s and injuries. Along the side of my website there is a link that you will find that contains a list of skills that will be covered in this course.


Successful completion requires participation in the skills practice. The practice sessions will require some strenuous physical activity. You are encouraged to check with your health-care professional before participating in the practice sessions. If a medical condition or disability exists that might prevent participation in the activities, or there are questions about fully participating in the Lifeguarding course, polease contact me to discuss this before the course begins.


To enroll in the Lifeguarding course, you must be in your Sophomore year. To participate in the Lifeguarding course, at a minimum, you must be able to demonstrate the following skills.


  • Swim 12 laps continuously: They can be front crawl or breast stroke or any combination of the two.
  • Starting in the water, swim 20 yards using a front crawl or breast stroke, surface dive 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound brick, return to the surface and swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object and exit the water without using a ladder or steps within 1 minute and 40 seconds.
  • With your two hands tucked underneath your arms, tread water in place for 2 minutes.


The skills evaluation will occur on a day announced sometime in the Spring of 2016 for next year’s class. Please listen for the announcements or refer back to this site for further information.


Upon successful completion of the Lifeguarding course, each participant will receive an American Red Cross Universal Certification indicating Lifeguarding/First Aid, which is valid for 2 years, and an American Red Cross Universal Certificate indicating CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, which is valid for 2 years.
