New NJSLA Testing Update for Students in Grades 11 & 12

On March 18, 2019, the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) issued a state memo regarding the New Jersey Student Learning Assessment (NJSLA) for students currently in grades 11 and 12. Please take some time to review the updates that are listed below:

  • Students in grades 11 and 12, who have already met the high school graduation state assessment requirements in ELA and mathematics are no longer required to take state assessments in ELA and mathematics.
  • Students in grade 11, who have not, yet, met their graduation assessment requirements will be administered the NJSLA-ELA 11 and/or the NJSLA-Math in Algebra I, Algebra II, or Geometry (based on their current enrollment in one of these math courses); Students in grade 12 ,who have not yet met their graduation assessment requirement, are already currently enrolled in the NJDOE’s Portfolio Assessment Appeals process.
  • Students in grade 11 must still participate in the NJSLA-Science test at the end of May.
  • High school English Language Learners (ELLs), who entered the United States on/after June 1, 2018, may be exempted from being administered the NJSLA-ELA.

The updated building schedule has been planned to best meet the needs of the students, the master schedule, and the unit testing times as designated by the New Jersey Department of Education. Additionally, the revised testing calendar has been designed to provide the least amount of disruption to instructional time as possible.
