CP GERMAN III

 

Course Description

 

CP German III is conducted primarily in German and stresses spontaneity and fluency in speaking.  After reviewing the fundamental structures of the language, the student is introduced to advanced grammatical material and simple, authentic German texts.  Written expression in the form of short summaries and compositions assumes greater importance at this level.  Reading comprehension of short stories and magazine articles is highlighted.  It is through this expanded reading material, in addition to numerous and varied audio-visual aids, that students increase their knowledge of German culture.

 

Course Proficiencies

 

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

 

  1. Understand formal native speech at a measured pace.
  2. Understand native speech that may be found in such audio-visual devices as cd’s and videos.
  3. Converse in German with the teacher and students exhibiting appropriate pronunciation, intonation, and inflection.
  4. Acquire and use vocabulary, idiomatic expressions, and grammatical structures and forms studied and drilled in class.
  5. Respond accurately to questions based on reading, grammar, and culture via homework assignments, in-class exercises, quizzes, and tests.
  6. Comprehend the content of selected reading passages, dialogues, and simple, authentic German texts.
  7. Organize and write guided and creative paragraphs, dialogues, and compositions.
  8. Comprehend and explain selected cultural topics dealing with German speaking countries:  i.e. German history, the environment, and educational systems.

 

Course Requirements

 

Students will be expected to:

 

  1. Attend class regularly and be on time. 
  2. Bring necessary supplies to class.
  3. Complete all in-class and homework assignments.
  4. Make up all work after any absence within a deadline established by school policy.
  5. Maintain a high degree of class participation and preparation.
  6. Demonstrate a cooperative attitude and contribute to the learning process of the class.

 

Evaluation Procedures

 

Marking period grades will be assigned quarterly and will be determined by the following:
