COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The major emphasis of ACD is to provide students with an in-depth, hand-on knowledge of drawing, painting and sculpting methods and techniques. Instruction will focus on mastery of methods and techniques associated with the skills of drawing, painting, and sculpture. Exploration of line and shape in observational drawing, value/shading techniques to create visual form, methods/rules of color theory, as well as 3-dimensional forming techniques will be explored through required exercises and projects. Academic terminology associated with drawing, painting, and sculpting will be employed by students as they execute projects and form an appreciation about the history of drawing, painting and sculpting. Students will learn critique as they evaluate the artwork of others as well as their own.


PROFICIENCIES:

AT THE COMPLETION OF THIS COURSE, THE STUDENT SHOULD BE ABLE TO:

1. UTILIZE TWO AND THREE-DIMENSIONAL MEDIA WITH A SATISFACTORY LEVEL OF MASTERY;

2. RENDER LINE AND VALUES WITH A SATISFACTORY LEVEL OF ACCURACY;

3. USE BASIC COLOR THEORY/PAINTING CONCEPTS WITH A SATISFACTORY LEVEL OF      ACCURACY;

4. USE SUBJECT RELATED VOCABULARY COMPETENTLY BOTH VERBALLY AND WRITTEN;

5. USE BASIC DESIGN, COMPOSITIONAL SKILLS, ELEMENTS AND PRINCIPLES OF DESIGN AND  CRITIQUING METHODS WITH A SATISFACTORY LEVEL OF ACCURACY.

 

COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
THE STUDENT WILL BE EXPECTED TO:

v     COMPLETE ALL ASSIGNMENTS, MEETING STATED OBJECTIVES AND DUE DATES;

v     STAY ON TASK AT ALL TIMES;

v     ADHERE TO ALL SCHOOL RULES;

v     MAKE VALUABLE CONTRIBUTIONS TO ALL CLASS DISCUSSIONS;

v     COME TO CLASS ON TIME WITH ALL NECESSARY MATERIALS;

v     SIGN AND FOLLOW BEHAVIORAL AGREEMENT AND ALL STUDIO CODES OF CONDUCT.

EVALUATION:

PROJECTS (COMPLETED IN SCHOOL OR AT HOME)     75%

ALL OTHER GRADED ITEMS               25% (AVERAGED BY CATEGORY)
